The John M. Blackburn Distinguished Professorship in Theatre and Dance has been established at Appalachian State University. It honors Blackburn, a Linville resident and former chairman of Appalachian's Board of Trustees. Blackburn, president and general manager of Linville Resorts Inc., currently is a member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
